6 Winter Activities In New Jersey and Pennsylvania

We know the winter blues can be tough to combat, but the season doesn’t have to be one spent inside! Winter is the most beautiful time of the year. The stunning weather encourages us to bundle up with relatives and loved ones and catch up after busy years. Local community events celebrating the season are the perfect way to stay cheery and see the ones you care about. In the New Jersey and Pennsylvania region our Weidel Real Estate community loves, these six local winter activities are sure to wow.

1. Warren Township Winter Festival

On January 8, 2022, the Warren Township Annual Winter Festival is back! Each year, rotating events bring seasonal cheer to Somerset County community members. Fun winter activities like ice skating and carving, as well as thematic games, are all common festival activities. Horse-drawn carriage rides, carnival rides, and a petting zoo have also been offered in previous years. Each year offers a fun selection of traditional and new festival events to wow guests. So be sure to check in regularly to find out what winter games will be available this year. 

The festival’s central location on the township baseball fields makes it accessible for the entire community. Coming together with your neighbors for games and treats is a wonderful way to celebrate the season. After spending hours enjoying the different winter activities, you can gather around the warm bonfires with delicious hot chocolate, toasted marshmallows, and other goodies. As the sun sets, the yearly fireworks will highlight the night. This winter festival is fun for all ages.

2. Sledding in Magill’s Hill Park

Magill’s Park in Solebury, Bucks County, Pennsylvania is studded with slippery slopes well-suited for sledding. The grounds, composed of five rolling acres, overlook the scenic Delaware River waterfront. Speeding down the hillside while overlooking a beautiful, frozen winter lake provides a memorable scene for anyone. Different hills of varying angles, heights, and speeds dot the park, so sledders of all ages and experiences will find the perfect spot for them. Other winter activities, like snowboarding or tubing, can also be enjoyed at this spacious local park. 

A quaint picnicking location is available on-site, so be sure to pack some snacks for your adventure. Once you’ve had your fill of sledding, gobbling up some hot chocolate as well as delicious winter goodies will make the moment one to remember. For a great winter outing, round up your friends or loved ones, pick up some treats from a local bakery, and hit the slopes!

3. Skating on the Square

In Mercer County, New Jersey, the historic Palmer Square is hosting outdoor winter skating. This Skating on the Square community event will be open every Thursday through Sunday for the entire skating season. Environmentally friendly materials cultivate their synthetic ice rink. This material is not only much kinder to the environment but also safer for family skating. You can rest assured the Earth (and your knees!) are safer for it as you hit this eco-conscious rink.

As you skate, you’ll also be surrounded by the gorgeous sights of the renowned Palmer Square. The charming skating plaza includes timeless historical architecture and endearing string lights. During the winter, the square is surrounded by glimmering snow features and decorated trees. The space embodies the spirit of the season. The block surrounding the square has different whimsical shops, bakeries, as well as cafés.

So, once you’ve skated to your content, walking the Palmer area and exploring the surrounding local businesses is the perfect way to wrap up the night. Consider grabbing a tasty winter treat from a local baker! 

4. Concordia Winterfest

The annual Concordia Winterfest is back on January 14, 2022. Since 1997, the Concordia Chamber Players have been a community staple in Bucks County, Pennsylvania. This year, they’re bringing in local talent to wow guests with beautiful instrumental tunes. Featuring jazz, folk, as well as classical tunes, this event will celebrate the season and bring some cheer to your winter.

Cradle Valley Farm, nestled inside the picturesque township of Solebury, is home to the Concordia Players’ concert hall. Guests will be treated to a night of relaxing live music, as a serene winter scene passes outside. Tickets are available online, and pre-registration is required. The Winterfest concert is also ideal for a refined, easy night of seasonal festivity.

5. Winter Hiking at Baldpate Mountain

Winter is also the most scenic of all the seasons. In Mercer County, New Jersey, Baldpate Mountain’s Ted Stiles Preserve is a choice hiking trail for exploring the seasonal countryside. There are several trails, taking you to different routes through the winter woodlands. These trails vary in length, so hikers of all skill levels can enjoy the grounds. The view overlooks the Delaware River, and historic farm buildings dot the trail for added interest.

Ideal for a day of seasonal family fun, this hiking trail is gorgeous in winter. Glittering snow surrounds your path, and glinting icicles drip from the nearby bare trees. Winter flora and slumbering annual plants welcome you along the way, as does the serenity of the forest. You will also pass through several meadows on the way, which always display beautiful snowy fields. For a day of family play outdoors, lace up your winter boots and hit the Baldpate Mountain trails! 

6. Wine Trail Holiday Vineyard Illumination

In Bucks County, this limited-time event helps celebrate the holidays of winter, ending with ringing in the new year! On January 1st or 2nd, 2022, be sure to hit the vineyard trails and see the Wine Trail Vineyard Illumination. Guests will be delighted as they walk through the vine fields, which will be lit up with beautiful twinkling lights. The display will also be available both days after sunset. Exploring the seasonal field decor is free to all members of the community. Each participating vineyard will also have appetizers, wine samples, as well as other beverages available for a small price to guests. 

For members of our community, the Warren Township Winter Festival, Magill’s Hill sledding, Skating on the Square, Concordia Winterfest, Baldpate Mountain winter hiking, as well as the Wine Trail Holiday Vineyard Illumination are just a few of the many events that happen each season.
