Weidel Honored for Charitable Efforts
The Weidel Bordentown office is once again collecting Toys For Tots this holiday season. Donations of new, unused toys will be gathered and sent to the United States Marine Corps “Toys For Tots” program. As in prior years, Weidel Bordentown was one of the largest collectors of items to be donated and that success is evident in the smile on a child’s face for Christmas. The Weidel Bordentown office will be collecting toys at their office up until December 18th, 2013.
“We have had great success collecting for the Toys For Tots program in the past,” said Linda Carnival, Branch Manager. “We are looking forward to another successful year and are excited to bring joy to children’s faces this holiday season.”
Toys for Tots began in 1947, when Major Bill Hendricks, USCR and a group of Marine Reservists in Los Angeles collected and distributed 5,000 toys to needy children. The 1947 pilot project was so successful that the Marine Corps adopted Toys for Tots in 1948 and expanded it into a nationwide campaign. That year, Marine Corps Reserve units across the nation conducted Toys for Tots campaigns in each community in which a MarineReserveCenter was located. Marines have conducted successful nationwide campaigns at Christmas each year since 1948. The initial objective that remains the hallmark of the program today is to “bring the joy of Christmas to America’s needy children”.
